Jamaica’s tourist industry is growing year by year by the thousands of tourists visiting the country and buying arts and crafts. They spend millions of dollars each year to buy the best souvenirs to their family and friends. Handmade goods are extremely popular on the Caribbean island of course mostly as souvenirs.

The use of arts and crafts in Jamaica initially served as a lifestyle of living, producing handmade pots to drink and eat. Jamaican artisans also depicted landscapes and life in their crafts  using them to tell stories in paintings and sculptures. Coming from an influence of European, African and Indian cultures, early Jamaican arts and crafts developed through the years and offers tourists something new each time.

Pottery, Ceramics and Straw Goods

Craft markets on the roadsides and art galleries are full of ceramics and pottery. Ceramic animals and glazed pottery are very popular souvenirs in Jamaica. A nice ceramic can be a wonderful souvenir for the ones at home.

People who love hats should buy a straw hats to protect their head from the Caribbean sun. These hats are for real made from palm leaves to give more protection against the strong sun. Other often bought items are straw baskets. In the front of a shop you see “straw market” you will find not just goods from straw but other arts and crafts.

Jamaica’s Colorful Cloths

Colorful clothes are typically Jamaican styles, they especially include Jamaica’s red, yellow and green shade but you will find many other colors as well. These cloths are very popular Jamaican souvenirs, especially bought by younger tourists.

Wood Carvings of Rastafarians

Wood carvings are also one of Jamaica’s arts and crafts usually made by rastafarians. Carvings are very popular items, there are many different types of it, so you can take your time finding the perfect one. Another common Jamaican souvenir is the item made of shell. These can be used as jewelry or any other types of crafts and they can be found all over the island.
